THE SETTING

The project in context.

The KIIT Athletic Stadium project in Bhubaneswar uses tensile fabric above a run of spectator seating. From the track, the roof reads as a sequence of repeated curved bays. The underside view shows how the fabric and framing follow the stepped stands, making the relationship between the sporting area, seating and canopy easy to see.

A CLOSER LOOK

Form & arrangement.

Following the seating line

The outside view shows a continuous sequence of roof sections alongside the athletics track. Repetition gives the canopy a consistent edge across the spectator side of the stadium.

A visible frame rhythm

Curved framing members and diagonal truss elements sit below the fabric. Their repeated spacing is apparent from the seating area and connects the individual roof bays visually.

Keeping the venue readable

The roof sits above the blue stepped seating, with the track and field visible beyond its edge. The photographs show the canopy as one part of the wider stadium arrangement.

YOUR SPACE, YOUR BRIEF

Planning a similar project?

A stadium canopy discussion should begin with the seating layout, viewing directions, access routes and the position of the playing area. Existing structural drawings are useful when evaluating where new roof supports can be placed.
