THE SETTING

The project in context.

The Silchar Airport portfolio record brings together an inverted conical tensile form and a covered walkway at the same airport site in Assam. The exterior photograph shows fabric geometry set against the building frontage. The second view looks along a canopy from below, showing repeated framing and lighting along the covered route.

A CLOSER LOOK

Form & arrangement.

A canopy beside the building

The exterior view places the fabric roof between the building frontage and landscaped space. Its curved lower edge creates a different outline from the straight lines of the building behind it.

Geometry at the supports

The membrane changes level around the support positions, giving the canopy a repeated sculpted profile. This visible form is the starting point for exploring conical and inverted conical roof arrangements.

The walkway from below

The underside photograph shows a succession of roof sections and lights along the covered route. It gives a closer view of the framing that is less apparent from the exterior.

YOUR SPACE, YOUR BRIEF

Planning a similar project?

For a similar arrival or walkway scheme, map the pedestrian route, building entrances, support locations and lighting needs together. Airport and other public-site access requirements should be part of the brief from the beginning.
